Q & A with Stephanie

by Jackie

I asked Stephanie Cohen a few questions that were on my mind to understand her style and learn more about who she really is! Here is how it went:

Q: Hi Stephanie! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

A: I am New York based interior designer with my own flagship furniture store in long island, New York.

Q: Can you tell us a little about where you have started your business, to where it is now?

A: I started in the back of my living room; hand drafting, showing fabrics, and designing rooms. Now, I have a 40,000 sq foot high-end furniture showroom, with my design center in the heart of the store.

Q: What Languages do you speak?

A: I speak English, Farsi, and Spanish.

Q: Do you remember your first design project?

A: My first design project was my own home. When I was 23 years old I bought my first home, and I had to put it together, and it was right then when I realized I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.

Q: Where do you find your design inspiration?

A: I find design inspiration through my travels. When you travel you can  see that every culture and country has its own colors, and you get to see how they use these colors- and it is inspiring to bring back to my own designs.

Q: How would you define your decorating style?

A: I would define my decorating style as, Contemporary glamour. It is a soft touch feminine to contemporary.

Q: What is your favorite color?

A: My favorite color is red- and I have never used it in design! And I also rarely wear it.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: Grease and any James Bond movie… but my heart is really with Just Friends.

Q: If you eight year old self suddenly found yourself inhibiting your current body, what would your eight-year old self do first?

A: Buy Cheetos!

Q: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What would you be and why?

A: I would be the gray & gold swirl… because it represents contemporary and feminine.

Q: What is the weirdest thing you have ever seen in someone else’s home?

A: A Peacock… the actual living animal- not the fabric!

Q: What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever worn.

A: A hot pink taffeta gown for my Sweet 16! There is zero evidence remaining.

Q: How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?

A: I am allergic to pineapples and kiwi.

Q: What is your middle name?

A: Mojdeh, which means ‘good news’.

Q: If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

A: My mom, she is absolutely my hero.

Q: If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

A: Coco Chanel
