Grey and Gold

Posted by Stephanie Cohen on

We are the generation of Grey in Design.  Grey has become the new white.  Polished Nickel became streamlined as modern starting in the 1920's - 1950's with an emergence of the Art Deco period.  About 10 years ago with the push towards the new Contemporary, the Nickels made a huge come back.  Right before that everyone's homes were clad with the new 18th Century English traditional design.

Brass had made its way into our home and design in a very big way. Everything was burgundy and gold with beautiful damasks and silks.  Then came contemporary and with it came the Nickels and of course the Greys!!  So for 10 years everything has been silver and grey, polished nickel, brushed nickel, chrome, pewter and platinum.  Clean, simple and fresh design.  All different variations of The Nickel.  Until This year when design got handed a beautiful curve ball. Grey was for contemporary and gold was for traditional.  As a rule!  Until..... And there it was...the birth of Grey and Gold!!

So now you can create a room with grey that's still current and new and fresh yet have it be warm and glamorous with the gold!  Hammered brass, gold-leaf, brushed brass, polished brass...they are all back and they are not going anywhere anytime soon.  The new rich opulent Modern. Look for it and enjoy it.  This is a new era!
